Peardrop in Italia

We’re very excited about our forthcoming Italian themed Pop Ups at The King’s Head in Shoreditch on the 11th and 12th August.

The King’s Head is a private members club known for its spectacularly wildly decorated private rooms adorned with taxidermy, collected butterflies and red velvet.  Many wild and happy nights I’ve spent there … so it seems the perfect venue for the third Supper Club in our #DineDanceDonate series.

#Dine

Thanks to Italian relations, I've spent a lot of time in Italy.  My 20 year old self spent a happy year in Rome, learning snippets of the culture, a bit of the language and a lot of the wine bars.  An impoverished student, my time was spent very much more in trattorias and tavernas than lecture theatres and tutorials.

But my year there merited most from learning how to cook like an Italian.  So it goes without saying that the food is dear to my heart!

I’ve always been struck by how fiercely loyal and proud Italians are to their regional cooking. They understand locality better than anyone. Have you ever been tutted at disdainfully for asking for pesto or fresh truffles in the South?

Be it Risotto Milanese, Pesto Genovese o Pizza Napoletana, these guys stick to what they know. Inspiration for this dinner struck during a recent meal in Rome, dining on their famous Cacio e Pepe.  I’d just been lucky enough to be at a wedding in Sicily two weeks before and what we’d been eating there had been so different.

All the courses I’ve chosen represent happy memories for me –  laughing about the mysterious ‘Norma’, of Pasta alla Norma fame, in Sicily last Summer or my aunt teaching me how to stuff bright yellow courgette flowers as a child in Rome.

Come with a group of friends!  It’s a perfect venue for a night out.  You can either book in to two of the private rooms of 10, or dine in the banquet room of 50.  And on the Friday night, you’ll also get the chance to revel at the extravagant party held in the basement club below.

#Donate

We are proud to be supporting the charity Mind, one that is extremely important to so many people.  As well as donating some of our profits, we are offering you the chance to donate an extra fiver when you purchase your ticket.

Aaaaand, we’ll be holding a secret raffle during dinner – prizes to be announced …
