“My name is Rose and I’m very proud to have founded Peardrop back in 2013. I’m also a ketchup loving, nature-obsessed chef with a passion for foraging and cooking with wild ingredients - be it edible flowers, herbs or game.
Ketchup originates from the East. As a fermented fish sauce from China, it travelled to Malaysia where it became a favourite of English colonists. They, in turn, brought this Malaysian "kecap" (pronounced "kay-chap") back home where they tried to replicate the tangy Asian flavour with mushrooms, oysters, walnuts and anchovies. It continued its journey across the Atlantic in the 17th century in the pockets of the Founding Fathers and eventually into the hands of a very famous German-American entrepreneur.
Our beetroot ketchup received so many plaudits from happy clients, it became clear I needed to spread the love even further! I have been painstakingly testing these recipes since early 2017. The green one alone has undergone more than a hundred different iterations!
As a strong believer in sustainable living and wasting as little as possible, using food growing wild and free right in front of our noses seemed a no brainer. The ingredients are a tribute to the UK’s produce, a celebration of eating naturally and locally.
